GKC says, "The real use of reason is to find the meaning of instinct." We want to break windows, to build unnecessary bridges, rehabilitate pavement or fill up holes, just to see people busy. Society is afraid to let anyone sit, to let the market work because we can't SEE the market work but we can see individuals filling up a hole.
This recent quote from California Rep. Maxine Waters reminded me of the quote you posted here. “The president must be bold. I agree that he must have a jobs program, he must create jobs. I’m talking about a jobs program of a trillion dollars or more. We’ve got to put Americans to work. That’s the only way to revitalize this economy. When people work, they earn money, they spend that money, and that’s what gets the economy up and going.”
ReplyDeleteI guess it's a bit beyond a simple broken window mentality; however, it is the same attitude of focusing on one seen while disregarding the unseen. Unfortunately, the seen that they choose to champion is often pretty bad in itself.
I hope that made sense. It was a decent aha in my brain, but I fear it lost it's clarity between my head and my hands...
Ouch, no option to edit my comments. The its turned it's will haunt me forever. The other mistakes... not so much, but that one, yes.
